My Dog is Chasing His Tail
Sometimes my dog will begin chasing his tail, round and round he goes…. it makes me dizzy to watch him. I often wondered why he does this dog behavior so I asked a friend who works with dogs what the reason is behind it. She came and observed my dog one afternoon and luckily, he did chase his tail while she was present. Her feelings about it were that my dog is very energetic and has extra energy to burn and that he thinks it is funny since everyone laughs when he does it. The laughter he received is an acknowledgement or reward in the dog’s mind. She recommended ignoring the behavior; now he doesn’t chase his tail as much!
