Visiting The Hyde Collection

While many private collections of art are impressive, a great many of them also suffer from holding great works of art away from the public. Art is meant to be experienced as much as it is treasured and the Hyde Collection in Glen Falls, New York is committed to making that experience a reality for those who visit their gallery. The Hydes started collecting early in the 20th Century. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Hyde continued on her own, making acquisitions that would end up constituting two-thirds of the collection’s approximately 2,800 pieces. These pieces range from sculpture, furniture, textiles, oil paintings and watercolors. After collecting an impressive range of pieces from the old masters such as Rembrandt, Mrs. Hyde decided to expand her collection to include works of modern art. Picasso hangs here, as does van Gogh and Degas. The items in the collection range from the very recent to as ancient as the 4th Century BCE.Visiting the collection means touring the Hyde home, as the majority of the collection is housed there.
